An area that’s seen regular seismic activity in recent months experienced another tremblor on the weekend.
The sub-sea region approximately 300 km south southwest of Marystown saw a 3.4 magnitude earthquake on Saturday.
The earthquake originated at a depth of 10 km. A similar 3.8 magnitude quake struck the same area on June 17.
A 7.2 magnitude underwater earthquake about 265 km south of the Burin Peninsula in November of 1929 triggered a deadly tsunami that claimed the lives of 28 people and left hundreds more homeless.
