While the new long-awaited high school for Portugal Cove-St. Philips is being broadly welcomed, some concerns are being expressed by parents worried about the transition for kids just entering PWC.
High school students in Portugal Cove-St. Philips are currently bused to Prince of Wales Collegiate in St. John’s, but will be attending their own high school closer to home come the fall of 2026.
That’s leaving some questions for parents who are wondering about the disruptions for students entering PWC in the next year or two according to area MHA David Brazil.

He understands the concerns, and says the school district should be flexible to address the concerns and needs of individual students.
Brazil, who is excited about the new school, says it’s great news for students attending junior high in Portugal Cove-St. Philips who will soon be able to move directly into a local high school.
