The ward councillor for the Goulds says a solution has been found to a road closure that would have significantly extended the Goulds Fire Department’s response time should an emergency call come in.
Access to the Main Road from Heffernan’s Line to Heffernan’s Place is closed to traffic, while the city completes work connecting the sewage main to the pumping station.
That would have meant a lengthy detour for the local fire department in case of emergency when minutes can make a big difference.

St. John’s Councillor Carl Ridgeley
Ward Councillor Carl Ridgely had a look at the situation yesterday and says they’ve found a solution.
He says the city has a depot and storage yard near the site, and taking down the existing fence allows emergency responders through with little delay. “It’s a lot better than a 20 minute drive up Doyle’s Road, heading south on the Robert E. Howlett and then coming back north on Route 10 again.”
