The provincial government is represented at a major climate change conference in Dubai.
Environment Minister Bernard Davis and two officials within the Environment and Climate Change department are attending COP28 – The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
This year’s gathering will see the conclusion of a two-year Global Stocktake process to see what progress has been made in implementing the Paris Agreement – legally binding international treaty on climate change.
The overarching goal of the Paris Agreement is to hold the increase in global average temperature to well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. Since then, world leaders have stressed the need to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees by the end of the 21st century.
COP28 meetings continue through to December 12th.
