The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary responded to multiple robberies in the metro region overnight.
The first happened around 2:40 this morning at a business on Elizabeth Avenue in St. John’s.
A man attempted to steal from the business, and when the clerk tried to intervene, he assaulted the worker.
The clerk was not injured, and the man fled before police arrived on scene.
Police located the 36-year-old suspect in the downtown a short time later. He was arrested and taken to the lock up. He faces a single robbery charge.
About an hour later, police responded to another robbery in downtown St. John’s where a suspect entered the business and brandished a weapon.
The suspect fled the area on foot. Police called in K9 services, but were unable to locate the person involved.
Police say there were no injuries in the incident. The investigation continues.
