The Registered Nurses’ Union is holding a public rally this afternoon to demand that government stop “privatizing” health care.
The rally is being held in response to revelations in a recent Globe and Mail piece that government spent over $35 million on travel nurses over a five-month period.
RNU President Yvette Coffey says they’re joining calls for the Auditor General to investigate the money paid out to a single company.
She says another concern is the $1.6 million paid to the company for meals that were not part of the contract and which the travel nurses say they never received.
The rally is taking place on the steps of Confederation Building today at noon.
