Premier Andrew Furey says that “in concept” he is supportive of the federal government’s Pharmacare program, but the province must do its due diligence before signing on.
Some other provinces have voiced concerns with the plan, with the Alberta government recently saying they will opt out.
Furey says the province was never consulted about the plan, and so it is with “some hesitancy” that he is conceptually supportive of it. He has to have more detail before signing on.
He says it is a program that he would support provided that it is in the best interests of residents, and that it does not have a downstream impact on the treasury of the province.
