Reports indicate that more than 100 people were killed, and hundreds more injured when Israeli troops fired on Palestinians rushing to access food from an aid convoy in Gaza this week.
Drone footage showed swarms of people rushing toward aid trucks entering the beleaguered area.
There are fears that the incident will make the humanitarian crisis in Gaza even worse.
Both the US and Canada have suggested making air drops of food into Gaza, but that comes as cold comfort to one local Palestinian.
A joint NGO statement released yesterday called on the EU and Member States to sustain funding to the UNRWA -the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, which Israel accused of colluding with Hamas on the deadly October 7th attacks on Israeli citizens.
Canada and the US both suspended support to the aid agency, despite a lack of evidence backing up Israel’s claims.
Dr. Majed Khraishi views Canada’s offer of air drops of aid in Gaza cynically, and says Canada has to take more decisive action.
“If they really want to do something…they have to stand up for human rights, for international law” and “call (an) immediate cease-fire, support the international Court of Justice ruling, and start supporting opening the entrances… with the thousands of trucks to the people in Gaza. I think the fact of the drop is really a show.” -Dr. Majed Khraishi
