The opposition is asking questions about data protection following news that a class action lawsuit has been filed against Teladoc in the United States.
Last fall, the province signed a two-year contract with that company for the provision of virtual care services.
NDP Leader Jim Dinn questioned government on the situation in the House of Assembly yesterday.
He says the lawsuit accuses the company of illegally sharing personal health information with third party companies, such as Meta – the owners of Facebook and Instagram.
Health Minister Tom Osborne says government has not yet been determined if there is any merit to the lawsuit.
He says in this province the company is bound by the Provincial Health Information Act, as well as ATIPP legislation and regulations, and the health authority has ensured that Teladoc understands that.
