Students at MUN’s School of Pharmacy are doing their part in showing the public the proper way to dispose of old and expired medication.
The students gathered at RNC HQ in St. John’s yesterday for their annual pill drop event, which coincides with Pharmacy Appreciation Month.
Student Wooje Choi says the event is about creating awareness around how to safely dispose of medications.
As an example, he says some think it’s okay to just flush them down the toilet or throw them away. However, that could contaminate the water supply, or they could be found – and used – by people who are not supposed to have them.
He says most pharmacies can take in old medications and incinerate them.
