A 63-year old man is facing impaired driving charges after fleeing from police in St. John’s overnight.

Shortly before 2 a.m. police tried to stop a vehicle on Mundy Pond Road, but the driver sped away.

Officers did not pursue the vehicle due to public safety, but located the vehicle abandoned a short time later.

RNC K9 Services located the driver a short distance away.

The man was arrested and charged with dangerous operation, flight from police, resisting arrest, impaired, and refusal of the breathalyzer.

The man’s vehicle was impounded and he was held for court.
