The Benevolent Irish Society is offering a series of courses for those interested in Irish-Newfoundland history.
President Bob Gillard says the courses will run over a four-week period starting with Irish immigration to Newfoundland their involvement in the migratory cod fishery.
The second week will focus on how the Irish community became established in the province and its influence on religion, culture, politics and commerce.
Gillard says some 45 per cent of the province’s population can claim Irish heritage. The course begins on Tuesday, April 23 and runs once a week to May 14. The cost of the full course is $100 and participants can simply drop by and register at the door.
