A child is dead as the result of flash flooding that affected the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia last night.
Police say the young person was pulled into a water-filled ditch in a park in Wolfville where a group of children were playing.
The child’s body was found around 11:30 last night according to King’s District RCMP Staff Sergeant Ed Nugent.
“As a part of the search effort, the water drainage system was diverted, and sadly, at approximately 11:30 p.m. the youth’s remains were located.” Out of respect for the family the young person’s name and other details are not being released at this time.
Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston offered his sincere condolences to the family and community.
He called the tragedy “unimaginable” and “we grieve with you, all Nova Scotians grieve with you.” He thanked first responders for their tireless efforts in their response to the tragic situation.
