Canada’s Minister of Emergency Preparedness has approved a request for federal assistance to assist the province in battling a forest fire in Labrador City.
Minister Harjit Sajjan on X said Ottawa will continue to provide facilities and accommodations in Happy Valley-Goose Bay for those who had to evacuate along with additional humanitarian workforce capacity.

Meanwhile, the Town of Happy Valley Goose Bay has once again stepped up to help their neighbours after thousands from Labrador City had to be evacuated.
The Happy Valley-Goose Bay town council is asking for the public’s assistance to conserve water, help find more accommodations for evacuees—especially accommodations that are pet friendly and wheelchair accessible.
The town says more people will be arriving in the community, and anyone who is able to assist can call 709-896-3084.
They are thanking the community for going above and beyond to help the evacuees.
The provincial government is strongly encouraging those who evacuated Labrador West to register with the Red Cross in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
Residents can register in-person at the E.J. Broomfield Arena at 2 Broomfield Street, by telephone at 1-800-863-6582 or online at www.redcross.ca/labradorwildfires.
Premier Andrew Furey will provide an update on the fire in Labrador West this afternoon.
Furey will be joined by Minister of Labrador Affairs Lisa Dempster, Minister of Fisheries, Forestry, and Agriculture Elvis Loveless and MHA for Lake Melville Perry Trimper, as well as Jamie Chippett the Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Forestry, and Agriculture, and Blair Adams the Assistant Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Forestry, and Agriculture.
