The FFAW is looking for compensation for Placentia Bay harvesters affected by dredging work, which is needed in order to allow the concrete gravity structure constructed at Argentia to be towed to the White Rose oil field.
Cenovus will be carrying out the dredging work in the water near Fox Harbour, Ship Harbour and Placentia.
Member of the FFAW’s Inshore Councill Jamie Barnett says the work will destroy fish habitats and fishing grounds.
He says the matter is now in the lawyers’ hands.
“We just want to make sure that we get the compensation package in place for lost revenues,” says Barnett. They’re looking for at least the next three to five years, if possible. “It’s still in the negotiation phase,” says Barnett.
