He joined a recent pilgrimage to Beaumont Hamel to accompany the remains of the Unknown Soldier to Newfoundland this summer.
He rose in the House of Assembly on Thursday to pay tribute to those who lost their lives and others who have paid for their service in a variety of other ways.
“To the soldiers, sailors and the airmen who served before me, the ones I served with, and those who continue to serve today, from the bottom of all our hearts, we thank you. The sacrifice that you and your families have made, so that we can life with peace, and the freedoms that we know today, are immeasurable. The loss of life, the injuries, and the continued mental anguish, can never be repaid. What we can do, is remember.”
