A first-degree murder case was back before a judge in Harbour Grace provincial court yesterday.
Two men and a woman are accused of killing a 42-year-old man from Spaniard’s Bay, then setting fire to the pickup he was in.
Forty-one-year-old Matthew Kavanagh and 28-year-old Stephanie Noftall, both of Harbour Grace, and 34-year-old Terry Cole of Carbonear face one count each of first-degree murder and indecently or improperly interfering with a body.
The remains were found in the burned-out truck on September 30 on Country Road in Bay Roberts. That was followed days later by the arrests of the suspects at a home on Gardner Place in Harbour Grace.
The trio appeared in Harbour Grace provincial court yesterday by video from HMP in St. John’s and the women’s correctional centre in Clarenville.
With Legal Aid lawyers now in place, attention has turned to the production and distribution of the Crown’s evidence, or disclosure, to the defence.
But as court heard yesterday, that’s still a work in progress, with an update expected when the case is called again on December 5
