Mount Pearl Mayor Dave Aker is among those reacting with shock and concern to two violent attacks in Mount Pearl on Friday.
Aker says violence like that displayed on Roosevelt Avenue has to stop.
Two men were taken to hospital with serious injuries in two separate – but related – attacks Friday evening.
RNC say the first victim was set upon by a group of young people around 5:30 Friday evening. A second incident involving a group of young people attacking another man was reported a short time later, not far away on the same road.
Police are searching for those responsible and are seeking CCTV or dashcam footage from the area.
Earlier this year, a number of young people were arrested in connection with a series of random and violent attacks in Mount Pearl.
Mayor Aker says his thoughts and well-wishes are with the families affected, and he stresses the importance of people calling the police if and when they see suspicious or criminal behaviour.
