A 42-year-old man from Western Bay is facing assault-related charges as the result of a police operation in Carbonear yesterday afternoon.
Trinity-Conception RCMP and the Emergency Response Team with the help of the RNC’s Tactics and Rescue Unit descended on Lower Southside Road yesterday.
The investigation was launched after police received information regarding incidents of assault and uttering threats, and allegations of unlawful confinement at the home.
Police brought in additional resources because of the possibility of weapons at the scene.
A suspect was identified and taken into custody without incident. He’s been charged with four counts of assault, and one count each of assault with a weapon, and forcible confinement.
Searches of the home in question, and a second location in Job’s Cove, resulted in the seizure of a firearm.
RCMP say the investigation is ongoing, and more charges are possible.
