The MHA for Terra Nova wants action in light of staffing shortages at the hospital in Clarenville.
Lloyd Parrott says Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital has lost all four of its internal medicine specialists in recent months.
Parrott told Tim Powers on VOCM that the situation is worsened by a temporary disruption in pediatric care at the facility. He says without a pediatrician, the two OBGYNs at the hospital will be unable to deliver babies.
“While the Liberal government argues that they’re hiring doctors, I think if we were to take a real strong look at those numbers, a lot of those doctors are leaving rural Newfoundland and going into the metro region. And so we’re not adding; it’s actually addition by subtraction.”
NL Health Services says the hospital in Clarenville won’t be able to deliver pediatric care or obstetrical services between 8:00 Sunday morning and 8:00 Tuesday morning.
