The main retailer of electricity on the island is encouraging people who rely on traditional means to receive or pay their power bills to avail of other means as the postal strike lags on with no end in sight.
About four per cent of Newfoundland Power’s customers use the mail, but the utility says they noticed an uptick in the past few weeks of people contacting their online services.
Company spokesperson Glenda Power says the traditional paper/mail system won’t work, but people can go into the system and create their own online account. If uncertain on how to navigate the digital technology, there is a number to call with a fairly quick turnaround.

Power says the utility will also take into account the postal stoppage when calculating interest and deadline to pay dates.
