A local psychologist is pointing out a real shortfall when it comes to accessing healthcare in Labrador, particularly when it comes to psychological assessments.
Florence Strang, a travelling psychologist who has been working in Indigenous communities, provides assessments for ADHD, autism and learning disabilities.
She had ten new slots open through a recent grant program, and received 140 applications within the first 24 hours.
Strang says the situation is even worse in Indigenous communities.
“A lot more people now are reaching out to private clinics, such as my own,” says Strang, “and there are plenty of others in St. John’s, because NL Health cannot keep up with the demand.” She says a lot of people are going private for that reason.
