People in fire-ravaged Adam’s Cove in Conception Bay North are beginning to wonder where they stand in terms of assistance from government to help them get back on their feet.
About 15 homes and 40 structures were destroyed in that wildfire a few weeks ago. People were lucky just to get out alive as high winds and dry conditions acted as fuel for the blaze.
Trevor Parsons’ elderly parents, one of whom has limited mobility, fled with the help of their daughter with just the clothes on their back.
Parsons says many property owners did not have insurance. He likens their situation to that of the Port aux Basques area after Hurricane Fiona. As in that situation, cell phone coverage is an issue.
He says nothing seems to have happened regarding improvements in communication in the area. Parsons says they just want to know what’s going to happen, but right now they’re in the dark.
