Parishioners in Portugal Cove South trying to save their church from landing in the hands of others are running out of options.
The property is up for sale with an asking price of under $40,000, but an appeal of the court ruling declaring it to be owned by the Roman Catholic Episcopal Corporation is probably not in the cards says Mayor Clarence Molloy.
The corporation has sold dozens of properties to cover the cost of sex abuse claims.
The heritage board met on the weekend to discuss the situation, and will likely have another meeting soon. But Mayor Molloy doubts a town-based purchase to keep it as a church will be pursued.
