The federal government is moving to repeal the law which allowed it to apply a carbon tax to the price of gas. Prime Minister Mark Carney removed the tax a couple of months ago through regulations, but with parliament now sitting, government is changing the legislation to strike it from the books.
In yesterday’s Speech from the Throne, government revealed some of the measures it plans to bring in to get tougher on crime. For starters, Ottawa plans to hire a thousand more RCMP officers. Weapons licenses for those convicted of intimate partner violence will be revoked.
King Charles read the speech.
Government will make it harder for people convicted of crimes like car theft, home invasion and human trafficking to get bail.
Canada also announced in the speech that it will join the ReArm Europe plan. It’s a major defence procurement project to ramp up military arms production in Europe.
