An off-duty RNC officer was Johnny-on-the-spot last evening after witnessing a man stealing from a business in the centre city.

The officer reported the theft to the RNC and the 23-year-old man was taken into custody shortly after.

Police also discovered the man had an outstanding warrant out for his arrest.

He was charged with theft, resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer, and breach of release order.

He was held for court.
