A St. John’s councillor is seeking to allay concerns about a project planned for Waterford Bridge Road.
The redevelopment of No. 7, near the fork with Old Topsail Road, has been ongoing for some time after the original O’Connor mansion was rebuilt.
Plans earlier this year called for three residential apartment buildings and renovation of the main structure into apartments.
Adjustments were made but the application to rezone and approve was rejected in March.
But two new applications seek to subdivide and rezone the property, with no new buildings, while turning the current one into apartments.
Area councilor Greg Noseworthy stressed the “no new buildings” part.
“So again, this is an application to rezone a portion of that full property, just the portion with the building that’s there,” he said. “It’s not to put in another building, which a few people thought was the intention. It’s what’s already there that would allow the building to be rented out as apartments, but there is not a new building.”
The project got a thumbs-up from council’s committee of the whole yesterday.
It must still get a vote of approval during a regular council meeting.
