A man who badly wanted to avoid police was finally caught after several attempts to disable his vehicle.
The RNC first flashed the lights on him on Mundy Pond Road at about midnight, but the 43-year-old hit the gas instead. Officers did not pursue, but laid down a spike belt on Topsail Road. Despite having two flat tires, the driver continued on. Police finally disabled the vehicle as the driver was beginning to head into the downtown.
The man was taken to the lockup on a raft of charges including impaired driving and resisting arrest.
