Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day in Canada, a day to recognize and celebrate the country’s many Indigenous cultures and traditions.
A celebration is taking place in Bannerman Park in St. John’s including a variety of performances, dancing, and various child-friendly activities.
A sunrise ceremony took place this morning from 6:00 to 7:00 a.m. which will be followed by official celebrations from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Child and Youth Advocate is marking National Indigenous Peoples Day by launching a special edition of the Young Artist Program. They’re asking young people to send in artwork that reflects what being Indigenous means to them.
