The Aids Committee of Newfoundland and Labrador is launching a new syphilis awareness campaign across the province.
Outbreaks of the sexually-transmitted bacterial infection have been seen across the country and in this province.
Provincial Coordinator of HIV/HCV Services, Julia Abundo, says the Know More, Test More campaign is aimed at increasing awareness about the illness and testing to ensure that people can get early and quick treatment.
When caught early, syphilis is very easily treated, but over time if left untreated, it can cause serious damage to the brain, eyes and other organs.
The program runs from Tuesday, June 24th to July 23rd. More information can be found online.
