An RCMP officer on the west coast says it’s important for drivers to take notice of construction zones and associated slowdowns.
Cst. Derek Hayden, who patrols the Deer Lake region, says speed restrictions still apply even though no workers are on site. He nabbed a driver a couple of weeks ago doing 139-kmh in a 50-kmh construction zone.
“Sometimes people think it’s a Saturday or Sunday so I’ll ignore the speed limit,” says Hayden. He notes that construction companies have different schedules as some may do a 10-4 which means ten days on, then four off.
