There are currently four forest fires burning in central Newfoundland, according to provincial officials.
Two of them are listed as under control, and while the others are considered out of control, a fire duty officer believes there are enough resources to handle it.
Bryan Oake says while the cause of each fire is under investigation, lightning strikes in the area on Sunday may be to blame.
The out-of-control fires are in the Burnt Dam area, encompassing about 131 hectares.
Oake says seven firefighters, two waterbombers and two helicopters have been deployed to the area.
“Certainly we are moving into a warmer period of the summer here, and weather activity will play a large role,” he said.
“However, we currently have sufficient resources to action those fires with no reports of spread at this time.”
