Rowers are on the pond every night and organizers of the Royal St. John’s Regatta say everything is coming together for the 207th running. This year, race day is Wednesday, July 30, one week sooner than that which would normally occur because of the Canada Games.
The Time Trials, the event which determines the makeup of the races, went off this past weekend.
Keith White, Vice-President and Captain of the Course, says they will be ready despite the change in date. It’s a busy few months for the 50-member Regatta committee, but even busier for rowers.
“It’s a year-round commitment for the rowers,” says White, “being on the pond and cross-training in the gym.”
He says they’re also seeing a lot of new teams this year.
