It’s a tinderbox out there with a high forest fire index and a province-wide ban on burning in place. And an outdoor enthusiast has some advice for people with off-road machines.
Parts of the Avalon Peninsula, the Bonavista Peninsula, Clarenville region, central Newfoundland and the northeast coast are under a heat warning again today with temperatures around 30 and humidex values in the mid-thirties.
Rick Noseworthy, President of the Avalon T’Railway Council, says it’s important for riders to remain on the hard-packed areas, especially in these volatile times in terms of fire risk.
“This time of year, if you get into a wetland, which is not allowed, then come out – everything dries, the peat moss gets around the exhaust, catches fire and begins to drop on the ground. It’s very dangerous,” says Noseworthy.
