The highway on the north shore of Conception Bay has reopened but police are asking that it be used for local traffic only. Route 70 at Small Point was closed yesterday afternoon because of a forest fire. It’s about five hectares in size according to forestry. No homes were lost and the power did not go. A few people were evacuated out of caution.

The fire in Lewisporte is now contained after being attacked by two water bombers and a bird dog plane. Power was cut to several homes to allow the bombers to work close to structures.

In the Jamestown area of Bonavista Bay, conditions were challenging yesterday and three more cabins were destroyed. Three water bombers and a bird dog were in there for much of the day.
