Two more communities are being evacuated – both in Conception Bay North. Ochre Pit Cove and Salmon Cove are the latest ones to have to leave because of the threat of fire. Residents of Ochre Pit Cove should head north on Route 70 while those from Salmon Cove should head south on Route 70.

Also this afternoon, the Town of Victoria was placed on an evacuation alert. People don’t have to leave yet, but an order could come at any time so they should be prepared.
The fire in Kingston has grown by 50 per cent in the past day to 2100 hectares from about 1400.
The evacuation advisory in central has been expanded to include all cabins from Rushy Pond to Rifle Lake
The provincial government is getting a bundle of help from the national pool of resources in response to the wildfires.
Premier John Hogan asked for aircraft, firefighters, personnel to help with humanitarian needs, essential goods and personnel to help with planning and other needs.
St. John’s East MP and cabinet minister Joanne Thompson says their response will be swift.
The Canadian Armed Forces and Canadian Coast Guard are among the agencies who will be helping out, and Thompson says there will be no delay. More details will unfold in the coming days as to the number of aircraft and firefighters who will arrive in the province.
