The entire province continues to hold its collective breath ahead of another government update on the province’s wildfire situation.
Premier John Hogan will provide the latest information this morning at 10 a.m. VOCM News will carry the news conference live.
Paddy’s Pond Fire
There was no growth in the Paddy’s Pond fire overnight.
Fire duty officer Mark Lawlor says suppression efforts helped to slow the growth, however the fire, which is about 250 metres from the Trans Canada remains very hot and smokey.

The fire, which is over 200 hectares in size, forced the evacuation of the Three Island Pond area in the Town of Paradise yesterday afternoon.
The south side of Topsail Road in Paradise, a portion of the town of CBS, as well as Southlands and Galway are currently under an evacuation alert.

There are no alerts in place for the City of Mount Pearl at this time, however the city has set up a notification system. Residents can sign up by going to the city’s website.
The TCH from the cloverleaf to Foxtrap Access Road remains closed in both directions. A section of Peacekeeper’s Way was temporarily blocked off yesterday but has since reopened.
Martin Lake Fire
There was significant growth in the fire burning at Martin Lake in central Newfoundland, which is now over 800 hectares.
A portion of the Bay d’Espoir Highway also remains closed this morning from Sunday Pond Resource Road to Cat Brook as the blaze became very active yesterday afternoon.
The fire looms about 700 metres from the highway with heavy smoke hampering visibility.
The Canadian Red Cross is delivering emergency services to those who are unable to return to their homes due to the closure of the Bay D’Espoir Highway.
Lawlor says weather conditions should be help suppression efforts as winds will be light today.
Meanwhile, an evacuation advisory is currently in effect for cabin owners in the Martin Lake, Great Rattling Brook and Rushy Pond area. All cabin owners have been advised to leave their cabins
Conception Bay North Fire
The Kingston fire continues to burn unabated.
Thousands of residents from Salmon Cove to Ochre Pit Cove have been under evacuation and away from their homes for nearly two weeks.
Ground crews worked the southern edge of the fire yesterday, and a fire break has been cut on the northern boundary in Ochre Pit Cove, where Premier John Hogan says there has been significant loss of structures.
Air and ground crews are returning to the site today to tackle the blaze which remains out of control and is in excess of 6,300 hectares in size.
The extent of the fire is clearly seen on satellite imagery, with smoke drifting well out over the Atlantic.
Fires in Spaniard’s Bay/Harbour Main
Residents are free to return to their homes on Maul Tree Hill in Spaniard’s Bay after a fire in the area of Brown’s Road yesterday afternoon forced their evacuation.
The Spaniard’s Bay/Tilton Volunteer Fire Department offered the update this morning.
While residents are welcome to return, officials are asking the public to stay away as forestry officials and local firefighters are still on site.
The fire that was reported in Harbour Main yesterday was also contained and continues to be monitored.
