The province is also providing funding to fit fire departments out with special wildland fire suits.
Public Safety Minister John Haggie says $100,000 is being provided to help firefighters who would benefit from the specialized equipment.
“Think about what it feels like staggering around in 40 to 50 pounds of bunker gear in the temperatures and humidity we’ve had when the fires have been at their height, and the wildland fire suits are designed for that kind of environment.” Haggie says 35 fire departments sent people to help with the wildfires, “and it’s the people we’re trying to look after. Letters have gone out as late as yesterday afternoon to those departments, inviting them to let us know their needs so we can kit out one full crew of their department for any future wildland events that we have.”
