The RNC have been called out to three recent fires in the capital city region.
RNC are currently at the scene of two calls connected to fires on New Cove Road. More detail is expected later today.
In the meantime, the St. John’s Regional Fire Department was called to a fire shortly after 6:00 this morning in the area of Janeway Place.
One homeowner told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly that he was awakened to the smell of smoke, and presumed that it was from the wildfires. He quickly realized that the smoke was coming from the exterior of his house.
He says it burned up some of the deck boards and drainage pipe, but he says the heavy rain from yesterday helped prevent further damage. The man, who preferred to remain anonymous, says the neighbours are very upset and concerned.
He says the arson was a random act, and not something that targeted him.
The investigations continue.
