The City of Mount Pearl will be among the new municipalities to host speed cameras.
Mayor Dave Aker says a recent pilot through the provincial government found that speeding was a significant issue throughout his community.
Government has already dished out a number of speed cameras throughout the Avalon Peninsula, including along the Veterans Memorial Highway, Waterford Bridge Road and Larkhall Street.
Aker says he expects the cameras to be installed sometime in September.
“Really, the only way we have of motivating people at the end of the day, sometimes, is through punitive measures, like capturing an image of a license plate and going through the traffic court system and issuing fines,” he said.
“We’re asking everybody to maintain the correct speeds as posted here in the city at all times.”
