The City of Mount Pearl is set to release details on a draft report on safety in the municipality.
In November, a father was struck with a baseball bat while trying to pick up his child from an after-school program at Morris Academy, followed by a second attack by a group of young people on another section of the street.
The attack created fear and anxiety amongst residents, and prompted public meetings about public safety in the community.

Since the city has made a number of changes, and Mayor Dave Aker believes the report will bring several recommendations to council.
“I would caution it’s a draft but it’s a plan that will incorporate a lot of safety measures but I can also add that we’re continuing to work with the RNC,” he told VOCM News.
“Our municipal enforcement team is fully staffed. More neighborhood watch programs are needed. We’re also doing seniors walks to make sure they’re comfortable. We’re lighting our trails with more lighting at night so people feel comfortable getting around.”
There is no word on when the document will be released to the public.
