The man who resigned from the Independent Churchill River Negotiation Oversight Panel back in May has released more information about his decision to step away.
Michael Wilson says he resigned from the panel on May 7th after chair Dennis Browne revealed “new information” during a meeting the previous day that caused him “great concern.”
He says he clearly detailed his concerns, but ultimately they were “dismissed.”
Wilson says neither Browne nor government contacted him to discuss his resignation and why he believes the independence of the panel has become impaired.
In late August, after being sent a redacted version of his resignation letter by a reporter, and reviewing the panel’s latest report, he decided to go public with as much information as he could without violating his non-disclosure agreement.
Referencing comments made by Browne on VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly, he argues that if Browne truly believes the panel is not impaired, he should ask government to publicly release the resignation letter.
Wilson adds, to the best of his knowledge, there is no commercially sensitive information in the letter.
