In a first for Elections Newfoundland and Labrador, K-12 students across the province will be participating in a student vote as part of the upcoming provincial election.
Voting day is Tuesday, October 14, and it’s not just for adults.
Chief Electoral Officer Travis Wooley says about 100 schools are signed up for the initiative, which involves students in grades 4-12.
He says schools will be teaching students about the electoral process, why it is important to vote, and about each party’s platform.
Then on polling day, Wooley explains that the students will cast a ballot and the results will be tabulated and released by the company arranging the initiative.
