PC Leader Tony Wakeham has committed to re-staffing the RCMP detachment in Grand Bank.
The announcement builds on one made last week, where the Tory leader committed to hiring at least 46 new police officers. Twenty-five of those would be in RCMP stripes and 21 would be with the RNC.
Now, Wakeham says his government will request that four of those RCMP officers be stationed in Grand Bank.
He says that detachment currently “sits empty” and is only used as a satellite station for interviews, with the officers for the Burin Peninsula being stationed in Marystown.
The RCMP ultimately makes the decision on where their members are stationed. Wakeham comments on how he will persuade the police force to station them in Grand Bank.
He says the first step is to provide the funding, and then to sit down with the police force to discuss the needs of rural areas of the province.
