Liberal Leader John Hogan says he will increase the funding for a special grant program to help municipalities with emergency situations if his government is re-elected.
While in New-Wes-Valley earlier today, John Hogan committed to increasing the Special Assistance Grant Program by $3-million.
That program provides financial aid to communities in response to emergencies related to health and life safety, financial difficulties, and other special initiatives.
Hogan says $6.7-million is currently allocated for the program in the budget; however, because of things like hurricanes and wildfires, the spending may be above that, which is why they want to increase the annual funding.
The Liberals say they will also formalize a prioritization stream for communities facing water issues and increase the amounts for those issues.
Hogan says they will also call on Ottawa to work with municipalities to improve water and wastewater infrastructure, and consult with municipalities to create a long-term municipal infrastructure strategy.
