The Crown called its last and arguably key witness in the second-degree murder trial for Robert Belbin yesterday.
Andrew Fleming, now 23, was with both Belbin, 24, and the victim, 22-year-old Seamus Secord, on that frigid February afternoon in 2023.
The three knew each other from high school, and were mutually into substance abuse, including cocaine and opioids.
So when 3,000 Dilaudid pills suddenly went missing, things got tense and accusations began to fly.
Fleming said the three were searching Secord’s Mayor Avenue house when Secord “began throwing blame” around.
“He got really mad and frustrated because he was out a lot of money,” he said, recalling a 10-minute screaming match in the kitchen.
But he said Belbin and Secord got more heated, with Belbin leaving the house, followed by a call to Secord’s phone, who he assumed was Belbin.
Fleming said Secord “got really angry,” took off his shirt and left — but returned in what felt like about 10 seconds.
“He was walking back down (the road) toward me with his shirt off … and all the stab wounds.”
Fleming helped his friend into the garage and onto the floor.
“He was saying he couldn’t breath, that everything was going. I said it’ll be Ok. There was a lot of blood.”
The Supreme Court jury trial is now on a break until Monday, when the defence is expected to present its side of the story.
