The Liberals say improved access to nutritious food is a key component of improving health outcomes. Leader John Hogan says his government will increase funding by $250,000 to Food First NL and related organizations for community projects.
Hogan says they will create a working group to further increase food security, building on the 20 per cent improvement under the party over the last ten years.
Further, 90 per cent of food waste from grocery stores would instead go to either food banks, be used as animal feed, or be composted.
PC Leader Tony Wakeham is going to prioritize the expansion of cellular service. Pointing to the wildfires in Conception Bay North, he said there is an urgent need in rural Newfoundland and Labrador for reliable cell service to support families, businesses and emergency response.
He says access to basic cell service is a right, not a privilege.
The NDP is promising to increase funding to the arts to “Year of the Arts” levels, meaning an increase of $2.7-million.
Sheilagh O’Leary made the commitment in St. John’s East-Quidi Vidi where she is running.
