Ontario Premier Doug Ford is unapologetic after apparently drawing the ire of the U.S. President for airing anti-tariff ads during the World Series in the United States.
The ad used comments made by former U.S. President Ronald Reagan in 1987 in which he warns against broad protectionism measures and how a trade war would hurt American workers and industry.
Trump ended all negotiations with Canada after the ads aired in the United States, calling the tactic “dirty pool.”
Ford told reporters today that his intention was to inform the American populace that tariffs hurt workers on both sides of the border.
“My intention was never to poke the President in the eye. My intention was to inform the American people, this is serious, and it’s going to cost you jobs if we don’t have a fair trade deal with your closest friend and ally”
Ontario is now pausing the ad.
It’s official: Ontario’s new advertising campaign in the U.S. has launched.
Using every tool we have, we’ll never stop making the case against American tariffs on Canada. The way to prosperity is by working together.
