Jiffy Cabs has launched its annual Block a Jiffy Fundraiser in support of the Salvation Army.
Salvation Army Major Pam Goodyear says this year, many families in Newfoundland and Labrador are facing an “impossible” challenge to stay afloat during what she calls a cost-of-living crisis.
She says any donation to fundraisers and toy drives like Block a Jiffy go a long way.
“Every year, we seem to be seeing more of an increase (in need), but people are really struggling now,” she told VOCM News.
“Mom or dad are faced with an impossible choice. Do they pay their rent or do they give their kid Christmas? We’re seeing rising costs, and so people are just really struggling. And none of us want to think about a child waking up Christmas morning to find nothing or very little under the tree.”
Donations can be dropped off in person at the Jiffy Cabs office or can be picked up by calling 709-722-HOHO.
