Crews have contained a rooftop fire at an old commercial building on Duckworth Street near McBride’s Hill.
Firefighters were focused on the former Newfoundland Telephone building across from the old CBC building.
Platoon Chief Derek Hunt says they received multiple calls about the blaze, which was mainly contained to the roof, directly below the cell towers on the Bell Aliant building.
He says three cell towers were “heavily damaged” in the blaze. He says the fire has been contained, and now they are doing some work to make sure it didn’t go down further into the roof of the building.

Currently, Duckworth Street is closed to traffic to allow responders to do their work.
